Lecture “Photographing and Filmmaking: Integrating Art Practice into Global Citizenship Education” Held with Associate Professor Hiroko Hara from Prefectural University of Kumamoto (March 4, 2025)

On March 4, 2025, we welcomed Associate Professor Hiroko Hara from the Prefectural University of Kumamoto for a lecture titled “Photographing and Filmmaking: Integrating Art Practice into Global Citizenship Education.”

In her talk, Professor Hara introduced her educational practices that incorporate art-based teaching methods in Global Citizenship Education for Japanese university students, explaining both the conceptual background and underlying philosophy of her approach. Drawing on examples from student projects such as “The Art of Becoming,” “Colorful,” and “Photo Voice Project 2024,” as well as accompanying questionnaire and interview data, she shared insights into the significance and outcomes of integrating art into global citizenship education.

Following the lecture, a discussion was held with Kyoto University faculty and students, allowing for an engaging exchange of ideas.
