We were honored to welcome Professor Yang Il-Mo from Seoul National University for a lecture titled “World Citizen or Earth Citizen? The Scope of Global Citizenship Education in the Conceptual History of East Asia” on June 12, 2025.

In his talk, Professor Yang introduced the expanding discussions surrounding the concept of Global Citizenship within Korean philosophy. Grounded in the perspective of conceptual history, he also examined the theoretical challenges involved in choosing between terms such as “world” and “earth,” or “citizen” and “public citizen,” and how these choices shape the conceptual scope of global citizenship education.

Following the lecture, a lively discussion was held with faculty and students from Kyoto University.
