Multicultural Education

In today’s globalized world, multicultural experiences have become an integral part of daily life, including Japanese society.

The Division of Multicultural Education focuses on individuals and their everyday lives within multicultural societies, aiming to develop discussions that encompass diverse aspects of educational research and practice. We explore how awareness, practices, and learning are related not only to the benefits of multiculturalism but also to the challenges it entails in educational and social settings where people from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds interact.

We also aim to understand how people in multicultural societies can adapt in healthy ways, achieve well-being, and contribute to the development of an integrated society. By examining the role of education within multicultural contexts, we aim to offer perspectives that support the realization of a more inclusive and sustainable coexistence.
